Description: A magnificent album featuring a selection of amazing images taken by Polish ethnographer Roman Reinfuss in the period proceeding WWII. The photographs are of the Rusyn ethnic group that inhabited the Tatra Mountain region in south-eastern Poland and across the border in Ukraine and Slovakia. The images present an incredible document of a lost world as much of the population that is the subject of these photos was resettled or killed and their villages were destroyed during WWII and the subsequent period and thus very little remains of their original material culture in the region today. Stunning black/white photos from dozens of villages showing the local ethnic costumes, architecture, and way of life. One of the nicest albums published in Poland in recent years and a must-have for anyone interested in Rusyn culture and history.
