Description
Origin: Czech Republic | Moravia | South Kyjovsko area
Era: Turn of the century (circa 1890-1910)
Condition: very good; minor aging to fabric; insignificant losses to embroidery along edges; recommended for display only
Measurements: 12″ x 18″
Additional Notes: Early example of a hand-embroidered collar from the Kyjovsko region done in characteristic black on white embroidery. The geometric cross-stitch motifs – especially the square-format tulip sprays in the corners – help date the piece to the turn of the 19th century as these designs were later replaced by satin stitch embroidery, more naturalistic flower designs and openwork. Would have originally been trimmed with narrow bobbin lace around the edges.
