Additional Notes: Though specifically from the village of Dacov Lom, this type of dress would have been worn throughout much of the Hont region as everyday peasant dress. The simpler design and lack of bright colors indicate that it would have been worn by a married woman possibly during Lent or time of mourning. The blouse is made of homespun linen with hand-embroidered motifs around the collar. Instead of a vest a long triangular shawl is wrapped around the chest to cover the blouse opening and keep everything in place while working in the fields. The skirt is made of black cotton and has decorative gathers around the the waist. The apron is made of finer cloth and decorated with lace and trim. It was likely originally part of a more festive ensemble, but was later relegated to everyday wear. Perfect for a movie or theater production to capture the essence of everyday peasant clothing as one would expect to see in the early to mid-20th century.
