Additional Notes: Traditional garment worn on all sides of the border between Bulgaria, Serbia and Macedonia, though most frequently associated with the Kyustendil region of Bulgaria. Made from heavy black wool and decorated with elaborate embroidery and couching work. An authentic dress from this region was used by designer Jean Paul Gaultier in a fashion show in 2010 (last photo above) and they continue to inspire and captivate due to their sophisticated design and unique ornamentation.
