$450.00

Description

Origin: Poland | Podlasie Nadbużańskie region
Era: WWII era (circa 1930-1950)
Condition: very good; minimal signs of wear/age; suitable for both wear and display
Measurements (with garments laying flat):
Waist: approximately 27″ around +/- 4″ when tied
   Length: 30″
Additional Notes: A striking skirt from the Podlasie region of eastern Poland called a “pichula”. Hand-woven with vertical stripes and applied colored trim around the bottom. Identical skirts were worn across the border in the western Polissia of Ukraine as this was once a unified ethnographic region before being split by the national border. This example is in nearly pristine condition and was likely worn very little if at all. So often the ribbon trim on these is stained or torn and needs to be replaced, but this one has all of the original trim in excellent condition. Scarce. The final photo above shows this type of skirt with the full costume.
