Additional Notes: This style of jacket is called a “komotka” and was worn throughout the Zahorie region in the 20th century making it hard to pinpoint the exact village it was made. Early styles were typically made of lighter fabrics and after WWII they were more often made of heavier fabrics such as this velvet example. Green is the most festive color for jackets in this region and was traditionally reserved for special occasions. There are sewing machine needle holes across the sleeves and body of the jacket suggesting that this was made from recycled fabric and the faint dotted lines now serve as a form of decoration. Fastens down the front with snaps.
