Description
Origin: Czech Republic | Moravia | Kyjovsko region
Era: 19th century (pre-1900)
Condition: very good; minor spots and stains; some missing stitches along center seam near top; typical wear commensurate with age; recommended for display only
Measurements (with garments laying flat):
Waistband: 13″ across
Length: 24″ including lace (+2″ tuck across middle)
Additional Notes: The aprons of the Kyjov region are some of the most spectacular works of textile folk art seen in traditional folk dress. Made of indigo-dyed cloth, the apron is meticulously hand embroidered and decorated with handmade linen lace along the bottom edge. The lace on this example is not the multi-colored style commonly seen on Kyjovsko aprons; however, it is an even older variety and equally impressive. The embroidery colors remain bright and clean and despite some losses and aging, the apron is in very good condition. While it would be durable enough for wear, the age and quality of this piece make it more suitable for display. A rare early example.
