Description
Origin: Greece
Era: WWII era (circa 1930-1950)
Condition: fair; weather and flaking to leather; wear to soles; wear commensurate with age and use; recommended for display only
Measurements: 10″ from heel to tip of toe
Additional Notes: Tsarouchi were once worn with many regional folk costumes throughout Greece and some of the neighboring Balkan region, but are today most commonly associated with the Evzone guards of Athens. Sold as tourist souvenirs for decades, they are one of the most recognizable elements of Greek dress. While this pair was also likely sold as a souvenir for tourists, it is noticeably better quality than most as it is entirely hand-stitched and features hand embroidery and leather work. An indispensable item for any Greek heritage collection.
