Black Satin Velvet Brocade Kerchief | Slovakia

In stock

Origin: Slovakia
Era: WWII era (circa 1930-1950)
Condition: good; two flowers worn off at corners; suitable for both wear and display
Measurements: 29.5″ square
Additional Notes: A particularly fine example of a traditional black satin kerchief from southern Slovakia. This kerchief is unique due to the raised velvet floral motifs. The color, texture and reflective nature of the kerchief made it rather difficult to photograph accurately, but rest assured that it is in very good condition and the surface is bright and shiny (not grainy as it appears in the photos). The two flowers in the corners diagonally opposite each other are completely worn off from being tied countless times under the chin when in use. Such kerchiefs were worn in southern Slovakia as well as in Hungary where they were likely manufactured.
